Thanks to a freak of nature occurrence, I was fixing our computer and nuked it. What does "nuking" entail? Well, without turning this into too much of a geeky-blog, I rebuilt windows so things would work better. In the process, my computer decided to be stupid and went around eliminating things it had no business touching. This includes all of our personal information and backups. This was 7 days ago.
The result? A heart attack at first which quickly turned into a full-on panic attack. I don't care about losing programs and my computer not working; money and time can fix those things. I was concerned that I lost all of my pictures and backups of pictures. Can't really recreate Carter at the hospital or our wedding- well, not convincingly, at least.
In the end, I've dedicated the last week to fixing this mess. It took much longer then I thought, but I am a lucky, lucky person and managed to recover my lost files. This means we have our pictures back. I've also gone from "anal" about protecting personal info, to "ridiculously OCD-anal" which I'm not getting into here. Needless to say, there is almost no chance of this happening again. If you'd like the boring details about any of this, you can call cause I'm not wasting more words on such a frustrating experience.
So, if you were wondering why there weren't blogs or comments or pictures of Carter, now you know.
I'm still putting the final touches on our computer before we're officially back in business, but there are some Halloween pictures, baby blessing pictures and other cute-Carter pictures forthcoming.

If that happened to all my pictures I would be insane. Really I would loose all control of myself! And I dont even have a baby to lose pictures of. Carter could have very quickly become like Dad and Kent, with one maybe 2 baby pictures. But YAY! that you fixed it, I'm so relieved for you. So show us the pics.
I agree with Cassie, if you fixed it why don't we get to see that cute baby? Hey, you act like you are surprised you fixed it. As far as I knew you could fix anything that had to do with computers:) You always fix ours!
Glad to know you got the pictures back. My computer crashed a while ago, so I know the details of a computer related panic attack (fortunately, we got ours up and going again too). But that is a scary thing. And yes...anxiously awaiting the forthcoming pictures.
Dude you seriously need to get a flickr account, or a dropshots or use your picasso more, and back up all your photos online. I back all of ours up on flickr, and Heather backs the same pictures plus videos on dropshots. So even if our computer crashes or our CD's we burned them on get ruined they are still on another server in some big room full of other servers.
That will help stop such panic attacks from occuring.
Technology is our friend Chris, you of all people should no that.
yeah, i had redundancy with our photos, but both sources failed simultaneously. I have quite a few pictures uploaded to online accounts so i wasn't totally up a creek, but with a photo collection close to 15gb, i don't really want shell out the extra $$ for server storage space- got me an external HD instead.
Crap I know exactly what you mean about OCD...I NEVER want to delete pics off the computer even though I KNOW they are already uploaded to TWO different servers (dropshots and flickr). Its just something about NOT having them when I need them right here...I dunno. I am a little weird about that stuff too.
Everything I have is on flickr. $25.00 per year for unlimited storage and bandwidth.
Okay, we are sorry you nuked your computer, but that was two weeks ago, and something had to have happened in your life since then that's noteworthy to blog about! Anything? Hello?
